State kicks off holiday DWI enforcement effort

anti-dwi advocates want to you make sure you spend them safely with your family — not locked up in jail facing a dwi charge, or even worse, being involved in a dwi crash. antoinette antonio shows us tonight’s winter superblitz getting underway at a checkpoint in albuquerque. and me i was a designated driver… there’s the tv ads.. “…i’ve decided not to drink and drive at all.” bilboards… and of course — “you guys ready, lets go!” the dwi checkpoints. this year’s winter super blitz is in full swing throughout new mexico. volunteers like christine forsythe are helping out — hoping the tragedy that hit her family doesn’t strike someone else. “11 months ago our daughter was killed by a drunk driver on her way to farmington.” minutes after this checkpoint started at osuna and jefferson… cops were already pulling people over to see if they are drunk. mothers against drunk driving is also there to help spread an important message this holiday season. “don’t do it. you drink, you drive, you lose, you will be caught.” “this needs to stop, she was only 20 years old and it needs to stop and if we can be a voice for our daughter thats the most important thing.”

DWI/DUI Court Seeks to Change Lives

Driving while intoxicated is a serious problem facing the state. According to the latest statistics we’ve found nearly 245 people were killed by someone driving while intoxicated in 2006. That’s down from a high of 380 people killed in 1986.
